As soon as I got the inquiry from Jack and Ashley for their engagement session, I immediately felt like we were going to be best friends. I loved their energy, and just how sweet they are together. I also love Oval Beach in Saugatuck, which is where we met in person for their engagement session. This beach is perfect for sessions, so much so that it lands right in my “Top 9 Michigan Engagement Photo Locations“! It offers so many backdrops to choose from like the beauty of Lake Michigan itself to the beach grass, sand dunes, and even some lush tree’s for greenery! Ashley and Jack are frequent flyers at their favorite local pizza shop, Buddy’s Pizza, and enjoyed sips of La Croix together on the beach while sharing breadsticks! I loved how they incorporated something they love together into their session!

Ashley & Jack’s Middle School Love Story to Their Oval Beach Engagement Session

Ashley and Jack have the cutest love story! Stretching back fifteen years to 7th grade science class. Jack was the cool hockey player with skater boy hair, while Ashley was quiet and shy. Their crushes were mutual, but Ashley refused to admit it. Fast forward to 9th grade, and they became very close during school tutoring. Their friendship quickly developed and they always hung out in together with their mutual friends. Ashley knew she wanted to be Jack’s girlfriend, but was too embarrassed to admit it. She went on to date someone else in high school, which broke Jack’s heart.

Fast forward, Ashley broke up with her boyfriend right before graduation. She and Jack attended different colleges, and he went on to date and have relationships, but she couldn’t help but compare every date she had with him. Ashley joined Jack as his date for a wedding in 2019. That night, Ashley knew she’d marry Jack. A few weeks later, Ashley asked Jack on a date and the rest was history!

For their proposal, Jack planned a date night for them. He told her the theme was history. Their first stop was the middle school parking lot. They talked about their memories together, and he played a song that reminded him of her back in 7th grade. Their second stop was the high school parking lot. Here, they talked about more memories, dances, and he played another song for her, and they had their high school kiss that they never got to share. The third stop was the bar they had their first date at. After that stop, they headed to Ashley’s favorite park in Metro Detroit. They walked to her favorite spot during golden hour and that’s where Jack proposed. Ashley wasn’t expecting this, but she said yes!
